Michael Giacon grew up in a Pākehā-Italian family in central Tāmaki/Auckland. He completed an MA in poetry at AUT in 2015, the following year winning the Kathleen Grattan Prize for a Sequence of Poems.

He published his Nielsen BookScan No. 1 NZ bestselling first book, undressing in slow motion, in May 2024 which Erica Stretton (Kete Books) called ‘… brave, heartbreaking, darkly comedic … full of revealing moments’.
